Arne Karlstrøm has finished Finnmarksløpet 11 times with a lot of great performances. He has also been the mentor of several rookies, latest in 2002 for his wife Marianne, and for the british adventurer Jason De Cateret. This year he offers all rookies in the 1000 km his advice aiming to reach the banquette Saturday night!

Arne’s plan has it major focus on the run-rest schedule, where the importance of going easy the first days of the race is taken into account. To have such a plan – and follow it – together with the determination to complete the race, is the very basic for succeeding in a competition like this running 24 hours a day for a whole week.

Of course a lot of other factors will be of basic importance so as feeding the dogs and keeping their feet in order etc. The musher also must take care of him/ her selves, being efficient at the checkpoints to get time to eat and may be sleep for one hour or two.
