The sport committee in Finnmarksløpet has decides some changes for Finnmarksløpet 2016. We like to bring those forward to entrants before signup starts.
Changes concerning all classes.
The opening banquette will be moved from Friday before race start to Thursday before start.
In 2015 we had a limit for the total entrants in 500 and the 1000 class. This was of course because many mushers wanted to participate in the word championship. We have no limits for number of signups in 2016, but if we‘re getting close to the maximum number of entrants we can handle, we will announce and stop signup earlier than the date posted in the signup form.
Drawing of start numbers will be at the opening banquette. To be a part of the drawing, entrants must sign up no later than September 30th.
FL-500
The FL-500 will be approximately 50 km longer. There will also be a new checkpoint between Jotka 1 and Karasjok.
The minimum rest hours for the 500 class will increase. Exactly number of hours will be posted later.
Price Ceremony and banquette for FL-500 will be moved from Tuesday to Wednesday.
FL-1000
The restart in Sorrisniva for FL-1000 will be removed. Entrants in the 1000 class must do a showstart with a small team of dogs, Friday before race start. They will have a guest in their sled and go for a short trip around Alta.
Starting day, the FL-1000 mushers will go straight out of Alta with a full team and there will be no restart. FL-1000 will be the first class out of Alta.
Another change for FL-1000 is the trail between Neiden 1 and Neiden 2. In 2016 we will go from Neiden 1 to Ellentjern, then Kirkenes and back to Neiden 2.
FL-junior
There are no significant changes for the FL-junior class.
