Some may have wondered if there was a problem with the GPS and the result listing, as Harald Tunheim has spent a long time at check-point Karasjok. According to Tunheim’s own web-page, this has a natural explanation - Tunheim and his nine dogs are resting.

In stead of dropping tree dogs in Karasjok and continuing on with the six remaining, something which is allowed according to race regulations, Tunheim chose another approach. In agreement with head vet Hanna Fredriksen, he decided to use the opportunity to research how fast it was possible to increase the weight of the dogs, and how much weight they would loose on the leg from Karasjok to Alta.

Already in Pasvikdalen, he realized that the battle for a medal was lost, and thus chose to rest more than before. In stead of trying to climb as high as possible on the result list, he focused on the dog welfare.
