Demanding weather conditions may cause safety challenges for the last part finishing the Finnmark Race. The main responsibility for safety for each team lies with the individual musher. Nature sometimes presents extreme conditions, and unexpected situations may occur. In such cases, it is reassuring for the organizers to have a solid system for security.

There are few who can compete with the Red Cross when it comes to the experience and competence needed for addressing the challenges created by nature. For the Junior class, Red Cross made two people on snow mobiles available which, in addition to the Finnmark Race’s own support snow mobiles, kept an eye on the young mushers.

If needed, the Red Cross has a large tent and crew available in Varangerbotn.

- We would like to make a long-term agreement between the Finnmark Race and the Red Cross, says Dag Røberg in Alta Red Cross.
