Kjell Brennodden thinks his chances for winning were literally blown away as he was moving toward Levajok. He was blown off the trail and lost the tracks. - I used a couple of hours looking for the tracks. In addition, the wind had caused jib snow to build up, which hampered the friction, he explains.

He says the dogs are tired from the long distance of the two last legs, and he plans on taking a good rest in Levajok. He does not want to share any information on how many out of the ten mandatory hours he will take out here.

Sunny and nice weather in Levajok, but it was challenging across the mountains, according to Kjell Brennodden. Photo: Dmitry Sharomov.

As the best male contestant at this stage of the race, Kjell seemed to be the only man who could contribute to some gender balance in this year’s Finnmark Race and long distance World Championship. The three World Champions so far this year are all women. Kjell believes women will be on top in all the classes this year.

- I think it will be Sigrid who will end up pulling the longest straw this time. I lost too much time on this stretch, he says.

The finish line in Alta is still some 220 km away, and with the option of splittng the last 10-hour mandatory rest between Levajok and Karasjok, all teams have the opportunity to rest in Levajok without having this it impacting their total resting time, and thus total race time and position in the race.
