The award for Best Dog Care may be the award that ranks among the highest among the mushers. It speaks volumes about how they have managed to provide welfare for the true stars of the competition - the dogs - under all circumstances, at any given time and whatever their own condition. The award testifies to their ability to providing animal welfare during the race.

The Best Dog Care Award is awarded based on observations and experiences from the veterinarians during the race. All dogs and mushers are closely followed during the race, and are also assessed prior to and upon finishing the race. The veterinarians thus have ample background for making statements about who is skilled at providing good dog care.

This year the vets decided that the musher who excelled the most among the competitors in this area of those who completed the 500 km race, was the winner of FL-500 RNB; Eveline Koch. Koch mushes for Sweden, where she and partner Karsten Grønås live and train Siberian Huskies. Koch is originally from the Netherlands.

The Best Dog Care Award has seen FL-500 and RNB as one. The prize consists of a money prize, a trophy and an art image created by Roland Panze.

We congratulate Eveline Koch with her well-deserved award!
