Two students from UiT the Arctic University of Norway, Sindre Sivertsen and Mads Grøtta, signed up as volunteers interested in working with parking services at check-point Levajok.

And which means of transportation to choose when one is working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Arktisk friluftsliv and lives in Alta? The answer is obvious: Skiing!

A quick 170 km-run over eight days, sleeping outside in a tent along the way is just peanuts for these guys. In Levajok well in time to get the check-point set up, they were welcomed as kings, and got a cabin + coffee + food + a snow mobile trip with ice fishing.

The students pay back via odd jobs, feeding the horses, shuffling snow, while awaiting the dog teams and the according cars.

When both FL-500 and FL-1000 arrive at the same time as according cars and handlers, good logistics at the parking lot is required in order for the rest of the check-point to run smoothly.

As a parking guard, getting cold feet is a risk, especially if you are wearing only-almost-dry ski boots. No problem - Bernt Olsen makes available some warm solid winter boots.

Sindre and Mads say they can not go back to Alta the same way they used to get to Levajok, as they have to be back in order to take part in a class ski trip from Alta to Karasjok. This is a hardcore outdoor lifestyle!
