The sport committee have no decided some new rules and changes for Finnmarksløpet. You can read more about the most important ones here.
There is now qualification for all three classes.
FL-junior:
Participants must have completed a long distance race which is at least 100 km and with minimum one checkpoint. The age rules to be a junior musher is:
- Allowed to start the year participant reach 15 years.
- Maximum age is younger than 18 years old the day the race starts. In 2015 the race starts March 7th.
FL-500:
Within the last three seasons, the participants must have completed a long distance race which is at least 150 km and with minimum one checkpoint.
La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc is approved as qualification race for FL-500.
FL-1000:
Within the last five seasons, the participants must have completed Finnmarksløpet 500, Femundløpet 600 or another long distance race which is at least 500 km and with minimum one checkpoint.
La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc is NOT approved as qualification race for FL-1000.
For musher who has to qualify during the 2014/2015 season, FL requires documentation for fulfilled qualification-race within February 20th 2015.
Finnmarksløpet and the Sport committee do not want to set up a limit for number of entrants. But, the capacity is not unlimited. Therefore a maximum number must be set.
FL-junior: Max 20 participants
FL-500: Max 80 participants
FL-1000: Max 60 participants
If the number of sign-ups exceeds the maximum number, a list with runner ups will be made.
Change of class will be accepted until Monday February 16th.
Participants name will appear as ”signed up for FL-2015” on our website when we have received electronic sign-up form and the registration fee. Entrants must sign up before October 1st to take part in a drawing for the first start positions in Finnmarksløpet 2015. The deadline for the total entry fee is within November 30th.
All dogs must do a mandatory pre race check before start of Finnmarksløpet 2015. Our race veterinarians must do the pre race check. The dates will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday week before race start. Finnmarksløpet will give each musher a time and date for the check. Participants must pay an “own share” to cover part of the expences.
FL-junior = NOK 150 pr team
FL-500 = NOK 200 pr team
FL-1000 = NOK 300 pr team
The total fee for entering the FL-2015 will theirfore be as listed under:
FL-junior = NOK 2 650
FL-500 = NOK 5 200
FL-1000 = NOK 10 300
There will also be a post race check for every team after crossing the finish line. Race is concidered as approved when the race veterinarian has checked and approved every dog in the team.
The time alignment for FL-500 will be at checkpoint Jergul (last year was Levajok).
There race will still have a rest-pot of 20 hrs. At least 3 hours must be taken in Jergul and at least 6 hours must be done in Skoganvarre.
The new rule lets the musher decide between checkpoint Levajok 2 and Karasjok for the 10 hrs mandatory rest. Two hours must be fulfilled in Karasjok due to a mandatory health check of all dogs.
Most likely, we will increase the distance for the longest stage between Neiden and Kirkenes. There will also be a new checkpoint with no depot, just water and straw. The extra distance will be between 70 and 80 km. We will give more info and details when this is approved and checked.
