Right at this moment Bjørnar Andersen (26), Oslo, has crossed the finish line here at Alta. He is mushing for the Oslomarka Trekkundklubb and won the Finnmarksløpet open race over tough 1000 km for the first time. The tension towards the end was mainly raised by the question whether or not he would be able to keep going with the necessary 6 dogs. He had been taking the risk of mushing with the absolute minimum number of dogs allowed. Andersen had a lead of 2 hours and 19 minutes when leaving from Skoganvarre, but has managed to increase that time difference even further.
