Hugo Hansen, who is a rookie in this year's FL-1000 race, ended up spending more than 24 hours on-trail with his 14-dog strong team between checkpoints Tana and Neiden1. Having all dogs still in the team that far out in the race is quite an achievement. 20km before cp Neiden1 his lead dogs did not want to run anymore, and Hansen decided to wait it out and give them time to regain their motivation.

It was to be a long wait.

The musher camped in a sleeping bag inside the sled bag and made himself as comfy as he could, while also feeding the dogs and giving them some well-earned TLC. Other mushers passing him offered assistance, but Hansen wanted to see if he could make the dogs run by himself. To no avail.

Tuesday morning race representatives went by snowmobile to check on him and his team. Hansen himself was still fine, but the dogs did not want to run any further. He therefore decided to accept the offer of assistance and allowed for himself and his dogs to be brought in to cp Neiden1, where he scratched from the race.
