Elisabeth Edland is one of the earmarked favourites for FL500, with top ranks in sled dog races both nationally and abroad. This is the seventh time Edland enters the 500 km long race. Being the victor twice before in 2007 and 2011 puts the pressure on. The competitors know Edland’s strength. We do too. Is there anything that can possibly make her nervous?

- The weather forecasted in Jesjavre can bring a few challenges. I will struggle if I have to demount the sled and approach the dogs, because I may risk being blown away by the strong winds, says Edland cheeringly. – But I have great dogs this year, absolutely great. They conquered bad weather already at this year’s Femundlop. It feels good to be able to trust them to guide the sled when bad weather closes in.

When asked who she considers the most substantial competitors this year, she answers “the Wingrens”, father and son Ole and Ronny Wingren. She also claims last years winner, Milos Gonda, has dogs in good shape. Local Bente Levorsen also tops the rank in competitors, due to healthy and strong dogs.

- I think it’s a shame that Ole Sigleif Johansen had to cancel the race due to sick dogs. I was really looking forward to competing against him this year. Ole Sigleif is an incredibly pleasant musher whom I will miss in the tracks.

We wish Elisabeth luck in this year’s race, and leave her to meet with Inger Marie Haaland, who is eager for an interview for Finnmarkslopet’s web TV.
