Musher and super veteran Ole Wingren (61) from Nykarleby in Finland has once again put his print on FL-500. His goal this year was simply: to win. And without a speedy Slovak named Milos Gonda and the two sporty women, Swedish Katy Meier and Norwegian Eline Lihagen he would have reached his goal. To be number four in this company is no small feat, but Ole won FL-500 in 2010 at an impressive race time so he had certain expectations.

This year he has been a strong contender from the start. He was number three all the way to Skoganvarre, and then took it a bit slowly over towards Levajok, before he turned up the speed from fifth place at checkpoint Karasjok, and has been number two since. However, the two ladies, Eline Lihagen and Katy Meier have gained more and more towards the finish. Together with his leaders Russi, Foppa, and Ujo he was able to keep the ladies at bay until Sorrisniva, where he came to a full stop on the Alta River, and the top spot was lost.

Ole makes a living being a musher, and life is simple, the hobbies are “working and training”.
