Lars Monsen is well on his way to reach his objective of beating himself; he has a 23rd place from 2010 to beat, and right now he is number 11. Monsen was pleased with the leg to Varangerbotn, which was far more comfortable than the snow storm in Pasvik. He is still not completely happy with the weather today; it is slightly warmer than preferred, and he is of course thinking about his dogs. Monsen is prepping runners for the leg towards Sirbma when we are talking to him, and it’s not an unrealistic assumption to guess they were runners for warm weather. About the apron he was observed wearing last night, he is relatively short spoken, but informed sources can say that he has sown it himself. It is not, as finnmarklopet.no guessed, a cooking thing, but a very handy device. It is an apron with two pockets, one for used and one for new dog socks. When Monsen gets in to the checkpoints he is handed the apron loaded with new, dry socks in one pocket. In the other he puts the used ones. –He always thinks of logistics and practical solutions, and won’t go empty handed in the checkpoint, we are told.
