Bernhard Schuchert from Sassenberg in Germany, left as number five from Levajok this morning. He is, so far, the best foreign musher in FL-1000. According to his sign up profile this race is the ultimate test for him and his dogs. Here he gets to test himself and his dogs in long distance sled dog racing.

Bernhard has experience from many long distance races in addition to Finnmarksløpet, such as Iditarod and Femund 500/600. He has participated in Finnmarksløpet many times, first time in 1998, with a 9th place as best result back in 2001 . He also participated in Iditarod in 2004 where he ended up number 50, he spent 12 days, 2 hours and 4 minutes from Anchorage to Nome.

The trail to Karasjok is marked by the wind which creates challenges for the mushers such as ice and head-winds. The mushers must work hard to move forward on the tracks.

The press office has tried to reach his handlers today for a comment, without any luck. Maybe they are sleeping?
