FL2011 has 40 GPSs available. The GPSs receive positions from satelites and distribute these to a server via the mobile network.

This information is then matched with the starting list and the audience may follow the teams' positions on the map (see link on the front page). At the start 17 mushers in the FL-1000 had GPSs put on their sled, while 10 mushers in FL-500 have GPSs. The teams who are believed to do best will later be tracked by senders being added or changed at check points.

In the FL-500 race signals are updated every 5th minute. In the FL-1000 the signals are sent every 15th minute to Varangerbotn and every 5th minute from there and to goal in Alta. Sometimesit will be further between updates when the mushers are in areas with no mobile signal. From check point Levajok Sunday 18 FL-1000 teams and 15 FL-500 teams had GPSs in their sleds.
