Petter Jahnsen, who arrived as leader in Kirkenes, had to give up his quest for the first victory in the Finnmarkslopet because of the strong pain in his left arm. His arm is numb and infected and a slight fever weakens the musher additionally.

After he consulted a doctor, the first decision was to wait and rest a little bit longer in Kirkenes hoping that his condition would improve. - I have not yet given up, but have to wait and see, said the depressed musher.

But after a while and lots of time to think his situation through he decided that it made no sense to go on. A very disappointed Jahnsen started to pack his equipment and his dogs to head back top Alta.
