The use of maps during the Finnmarksløpet race has been discussed in the committee. Their decision means that the pile of maps from earlier races is history.

A new rule applies for this year's race. The rule makes it possible to use two maps instead of 20 in the 100 km race. Mushers may still bring maps on the scale of 1:50 000, but may also replace the maps with a GPS. The GPS needs to be equipped with two versions of downloaded maps: one on the scale of 1:50 000 with tracks, as well as another with a scale of 1:250 000 also with race track markings. To bring a compass is mandatory, as in previous years.
