Red Lantern

I strålende sol og med mange framøtte tilskuere kom en rørt og glad Kristine Jerijærvi i mål som siste deltaker i årets Finnmarksløp.

Flooded in sun and with many spectators greeting her, it was a moved and happy Kristine Jerijærvi finishing as the last musher. It was a fantastic moment and many moved spectators who welcomed Kristine at 14:08 in Alta.

It was a moved Kristine Jerijærvi from Sør-Varanger, Norway who crossed the finish line as the last standing musher in Finnmarksløpet 2010. Tears flooded from Krisine, her handler and many of the spectators. Sør-Varanger’s mayor, Linda B. Randal, Helga Pedersen and President of the Samiparliament, Egil Olli gave Kristine a hug and congratulations, among others.

She was the last one throughout the race. Jerijærvi could at times see Wolfram Schumacher from the Netherlands and Isabelle Travadon from France. From Varangerbotn and in she has been on her own. Still she was focused; she wanted to go all the way. Sunday afternoon, at 14:08 she had completed her journey through Finnmark. 2 days and 16 hours after the winner Ralph Johannessen crossed the line. Kristine was very proud of her dogs and especially Canis, her lead dog. –An amazing dog who has earned his right to sleep in my bed at least the next two weeks, says a very pleased Kristine.

Red Lantern is a reward for the last musher. From SpareBanken1 Nord-Norge she received a sami knife, from Gargia mountain Inn a wooden cup and from the Samiparliament she received another sami knife.
