A lot of positive things have been said about the tracks in this year’s race. Reitan and Sørlie are both praising them and people claim that they are the best tracks ever in FL1000.

We therefore decided to have a word with those who have worked for weeks now in order to give the mushers ideal conditions out in the tracks. We met up with snowmobilerider Are Halonen. He is responsible for the quality of the tracks at Varangerhalvøya.

He says that the reason the tracks are so good this year has to do with the structure of snow, but first and foremost it’s the result of hard work. He reckons he has run approximately 2500 km on the track since February in order to prepare them for the race. He adds that they have a very good and close dialog with the reindeerfarmers in order to prevent any conflictsituations. Reindeerdistrict 6 actually demands that Halonen is a part of this work. This morning he had to see to a situation where a large herd of reindeers was blocking the tracks. Halonen rode his snowmobile out to the herd and saw to that the reindeerowners were able to guide the herd away in save distance from the trail.
