Peter Jahnsen ignored the pain in his injured arm and drove out of Neiden in the lead of the open race. A little more than an hour after him Frode Holten followed, who had to watch his opponent leave while taking his 12 hour mandatory rest. Only ten minutes afterwards two of the big favourites Rune Johansen and Bjørnar Andersen tackled the next stage of the race at the same time. They are facing the longest stage- 135 km from Neiden to Kirkenes. The powder snow on the way will add to the challenge of this stage and the mushers and dogs will have to work hard to reach teh next checkpoint at the borderline museum in Kirkenes.
