Finnmarksløpet moves the checkpoint in Karasjok to the city centre. Rica Hotel Karasjok made the initial proposal, and together with Sparebank1 Nord-Norge and Karasjok municipality do they wish to create more attention and activitiy around the race.

- Tormod Svineng has done excellent work for Finnmarksløpet and the checkpoint in Karasjok over the past years but we now hope to create more attention around the race by moving the checkpoint to the centre, says manager John Arne Mathiesen at Rica Hotel Karasjok.

A whole week of activities around the race is now planned together with Nils Gunnar Persen in Sparebank 1 Nord-Norge and Karasjok municipality. Read more on the web-site of the local newspaper (only in Norwegian):  www.finnmarkdagblad.no

The checkpoint is in the area close to Rica Hotel and Sàpmi. It is close to where it was placed in the late 90s and early 00s. Emphasis is made on the facilities for dogs, mushers and handlers. Finnmarksløpet is happy that Tormod Svineng is part of the team, as he has much experience with the race. Finnmarkskollektivet is responsible for running the checkpoint, and also they have great experience with dogs and Finnmarksløpet.

Executive manager for Finnmarksløpet, Gro Anett Olaussen, says that this is a trial-year and that an evaluation after this year's race will show whether the change of location is going to be permanent. - We are happy about the suggestion about moving thecheclpoint made by Rica Karasjok and John Arne Mathiesen. Together we hope to make the checkpoint to an experience for everybody and especially for the inhabitants in Karaksjok, says Olaussen.
