Rica Hotel Alta and other places offering overnight accommodation are already now, 4 months before Finnmarksløpet, fully booked Thursday and Friday before the start. Alta Sled Dog Club and Finnmarksløpet hope that people will open their private homes to mushers who need a place to stay.

In August www.finnmarkslopet.no wrote that the businesses that offer overnight accommodation in Alta started to fill up because of Finnmarksløpet 2010. Kari Flesvik, general manager at Rica Hotel Alta says to the Norwegian Broadcast Association that the hotel is completely fully booked on Thursday and Friday before the race. You may read about it on Nordnytt's webpages (in Norwegian only), klikk her

Other alternatives. Finnmarksløpet has been in contact with Folke Strand who runs Alta Strand Camping in Øvre Alta, approx. 5 km from the city centre. He as well is fully booked during the same days. Gro Anett Olaussen, the manager of Finnmarksløpet, says that Alta Sled Dog club is working to find alternative places to stay for the mushers and that they are sure that all mushers and handlers are going to have a place to stay before and after tha race. - Different possible solutions for accommodation are being considered, and we have also asked people to open their private homes to those who do nothave a place to stay yet, Olaussen says.

Let us know. Many mushers have already booked their accommodation and that is part of the reason why so many hotels and hostels are fully booked already. Kristin Thorsen, the leader of Alta Sled Dog club, still encourages mushers and handlers to get in touch if they need help and recommendations in order to arrange for accommodation. - Give us a call or send us an e-mail, and we will forward your request to those we know have available rooms, says Kristin Thorsen.
