The Finnmarksløpet wouldn't be able to work without the help of the volunteers. It's about the work at the checkpoints, the start helpers, the veterinars, to name some of them. Magne Johansen leads the following-team which drives snowscooters, and he says that this year the race has been a trip with a lot of sunshine.

He tells that the planning for the Finnmarksløpet started already before july, with the outfits checking, and the the planning of the roads. Endeed the set up for the race started in the beginning of February. This year it was necessary to wait  for enough snow.

The snowscooters drive next to the sledge, both in 500 and 1000km. - We watch carfully that the racers follow the track that we have built up, and to help who has droven wrong. If the weather changes along the way, we must change the track also, and this is done continuously, in favor of the drivers, says Magne Johansen, who is the leader of the scooter gang, which is called " The Trail Breakers".

- This year, there have been some very big challenges, emphasizes Johansen. - But it has been difficult to put into the ground the signal-sticks into Tana river this year, since it has been so little snow. We had to drill into the ground to make sure that the signal-sticks wouldn't fall.

- We drive with the first teams to the finish-line in Alta, so you will see us, the leaders are not so far away!
