Kjell Brennodden has been the fastest musher so far on the way from Kirkenes towards Neiden II. When he was asked to give a comment on this stage he told this story:

In a downhill slope Kjell sees two reindeer in front of the dog-team. He steps on the break, but something goes wrong, and he gets some problems with the sled. He manages to stop were the hill ends, but he realises that he has a big problem. The solution arrived from the track behind him; a man on a snowmobile stopped and helped him fix the problem with the sled.

He goes on. After a while he sees a man running towards him from a lake nearby. He gives Kjell a dried reindeer heart as he passes by and says “I want you to have this! I am cheering for you!” Kjell ate the heart and says that it tasted delicious.

A while later he stopped to give the dogs a bit of snack. He sat down on the sled for a short while, and he dozed off. When he came to himself again he found the dog-team in a tangled mass of rope and wagging fur. But as Kjell said while eating dinner at Neiden II “I am good at untangling, so it was no problem”.

In spite of all hardships and strange incidents; Kjell Brennodden is the fastest of the mushers in lead.
