This year’s race offers a free veterinary clinic before race start, Thursday 6 March, 0900-1500 and Friday 7 March, 0900-1600. Two of the race vets will be on hand to check any dogs that will participate in the race.

Chief vet, Charlotte Leschbrandt, offers this service for the first time, and there is no obligation to turn up. More information can be found on Finnmarkløpet’s veterinary pages.

Names on collars – Mushers are requested to mark the collars with the names of the dogs who will be checked. One good way is to write the dog’s name with water-resistant pen on sportstape, attached to the collar. In this way, the vets can give the best possible service to the dogs. Names on collars will also help the veterinary team at checkpoints.

Chips – Charlotte reminds all mushers to chip their dogs before they arrive in Alta. The vets are unlikely to have the time to start chipping dogs. In any case, microchips should be in place at least 4 days before a dog can run in harness.
