Each year, one musher is given free entry to Finnmarksløpet. This year, Ben Junghaenel from Sweden was the lucky winner.

Ben Junghaenel has entered for the 1000km race in 2008. His name was drawn from all those who were registered by 1 December.
Finnmarksløpet has tried to contact with Ben for his comments. For us, he is something of an unknown quantity, as he comes to this race for the first time. - We have e-mailed Ben with the good news, and we promise to write more about who he is, just as soon as we manage to talk to him, said Finnmarksløpet’s Hanne Rosenberg.
The draw was made in the race office by our own mathematician and Excel-wizard, Arne Oddvar Nilsen. Proceedings were overseen by the chairman of Alta sled-dog club, Jan Gunnar Vian and Hans Petter Dalby from race administration. - It is extra special that the free start goes to a musher from abroad. It fits well with our budget plans, said a smiling Arne Oddvar Nilsen.
