The German Musher Bernhard Schuchert arrives the finish line in Alta at 05:06. He had a smoothly going race at the end and was able to leave Lars Monsen behind him. He came in as number 10.

He seemed to be very fast during his race and had the chance to pass Lars Monsen with whom he was racing close together on the way from Karasjok to Alta. With no break in Jotka he continued his speed without any problems.

But Monsen started to have some difficulties with his dogs. They stopped somewhere in between Karasjok and Jotka and layed down. There was no way to go on for a while and Schuchert came closer to Monsen until he passed him. Even with Schucherts help to lead in front they wouldnt go on.

That gave Schuchert a chance to speed up and reach position 10 in Finnmarkslopet . -I am very happy to have reached this goal and every year something new happens. Thats Finnmarkslopet, he said. He is now the second time under the Top 10 but compared with 2001 when he arrived in the 9. position where just 12 Mushers finished the race, he could win out over 28 competitors. That is an outstanding performance to start with the position 38 and work the way down to the Top 10.

We congratulate the Schucherts not only for the 10. position in the race but also for the best position from all international Mushers. Schuchert is the winner under the "not Norwegians", because the first nine positions were all spotted from the Norwegian Mushers.
