Finnmarksløpet is already hearing from mushers who want to register for next years race.

We have met Silvia Furtwangler from Germany who are registering for next yeras race along with Jaco Alex Ulmann from Switzerland.

Silvia participated in the 1000 km this year, but had to quit at Levajok. "My lead-dog ws limping and she turned and looked at me with pain in her eyes, as if she said i cannot go on", Silvia says. Silvia has had the dog, Minnie, for many years and she thinks it is the best lead-dog she has had. "This was to be Minnie's last race, and I did not want to do it without her. The dogs' health and condition is the most important to me", she continues. "It is important to be able to say stop. A musher always want to cross the finish-line, but the dogs must come first in a sport like this", Silvia says.

Next year I planned to take part in Iditarod, but I have changed my mind. "This is because I want to achieve the goal that I have set for myself. Next year I hope to cross the finish-line", she says and smiles. She and Ulmann from Switzerland are going to stay in Alta until Friday. They drive together to central Europe when it is over, and return together back to Finnmark next year. "We are the European team", Silvia laughs. Many friendships are made through this sport.
