Tactical gamble

It looks like there are two different tactics in this year's 500 km race. A short analysis:

Some of the favorites decided to make a long stop early. Katy Meier and Stein Are Harder are still in Skoganvarre. Also the Austrian Michael Kalcher, who lives in Finland, takes a long break at this checkpoint.

For those we think that they are likely to use the next checkpoint in Levajok just to go through. If this is the right tactic will depend on the weather.  In the meantime the trail is wet and fog in the mountains between Skoganvarre and Levajok will be a hard task for the teams. If the weather is getting better then it looks pretty good for the racers who are still in Skoganvarre.

The leaders seem to trust in the tactic which was really successful in the last years. A short break in Skoganvarre will be balanced with a longer stay in Levajok. If the weather keeps constantly warm and the fog doesn't leave there will be an advantage for the front teams because they went parts of the track between Skoganvarre and Levajok under good conditions.

We will see who has choosen the right tactic.
