Arne is able answerig this question: The name "Husky" describes the different polar dog's breed and a kind of the dogs who originate from cold areas our planet'.

They are mainly used as sledge dogs. As an example, the dogs from Greenland are pure raced. The characters are the thick coat and their size. And maybe some of us do not know that in spite of their name - Greenland dogs, they are Norwegian breed. The background is that Norwegian people used these dogs for expeditions towards the North, The Artic Circle.

Not only Huskies

The another breed are the Alaska Malamut dogs. Also they are - like the Greenland dogs - big with thick coat. The third kind are Samojeden, who have kind of wool coat and perform very good as lead dogs. But nowadays they are not used as sledge dogs anymore. The fourth kind and probably the most known of the polar dogs, the Siberian Huskies. These are slightly smaller but faster than Greenland dogs and Alaska Malamuts. They are used from people in east Siberia as sledge and shepherd dogs.
