It was near 6 pm, only 15 km left to the last checkpoint Jotka, when Katy Meier, who until then was competing really excellent, decided with a heavy heart to quit. Her second guidance dog lost every motivation, after she took the first one out of the team short after Jergul. So there was no choice for Katy anymore. In the 500 km class there have given up 17 mushers up to now, due to the exertion of the trail, whereas there are only two quits in the 1000 km race.
