Roger's dogs did not appear so well-rested as the dogs of Thunheim, who placed the top position in the 1000 km race . Roger tried to calm down his dogs when he wanted talk a little to the publick in Tana. But they did not want to listen to him. The check point Skipagurra is waiting.

Champion Finnmarksløpet

Roger Dahl is the one of the celebrities in the dog sledge world. Among the dog sledge racing he is known as the "Master Finnmarksløpet". 2006 is his anniversary year. Yesterday it was his 20es time when he started in the northern dog sledge race in the world. He has already accomplished the end line for nineteen times. It is a breathtaking achievement, not just in the case of the hard weather conditions which can be experienced between Russian boarders and Alta, and between Finland and Barentsee.

The stunning acpects of the Mushers' lifes are the most admirable. The dog sledge rider must not stand only for his family and the job but also for the dogs. The most important factor for the success is his care and love with that they are brought up and trained. And esspecialy by the finnmarksløpet, the success does not mean to winn but to pass the finish line. Also last year Roger and his "Canyon Huskies" managed to arrive in the finish. As the winner!

Canyon Huskies

"Canyon Huskies" are obtaining more and more visitors. In the summer, they are Nord cap travelers, mostly tourists from England and Germany. Dahl takes the tourist to the canyon while telling them stories about his dogs and how he works and train them during the whole year. The summer in Alta is dry and warm. The temperatures are sometimes so high as 30 Celsius. That is not the favorite season for the huskies, they prefer cold temperatures, such as minus 30 celsius.

The work done by the huskies is at least the same hardness as by their owners. They are despite of the the biting Finnmark's climate in their best condition. Even when now Harald Thunheim, just as so characteful competitor as Roger Dahl, stands on the top position - everything is still open after the first third of the race. And Skipagurra is waiting...
