Unfortunately the Swiss Emil Inauen had to cancel his participation in Finnmarksløpet 2006. The journey of 3000 km were too much for his car. In the middle of Sweden he became a victim of technology.
His dogs have been well prepared for the 1000 km tour, but the modern technology obviously was not. The damage of his car forced Emil and his team to a long intermediate hold in Sweden. Here there was no possibility to train his dogs for many days and so they could not be prepared optimal. Of course they tried to organise a new (rental-) car, but that came out to be extremely difficult and expensive.
In the end a very disappointed Emil Inauen had to accept, that Finnmarksløpet 2006 was finally out of his reach. In the last year he announced that when participating in the 1000 km in 2006 he would not only like to see the finish line, but would like to "tease the top Norwegians as long as possible". Hopefully he can do this in the next year.
