Spectacular opening of the Winter Festival

Last Thursday this years Borealis Winter Festival started with Finnmarksløpet in focus. During a spectacular and evocative opening show on the fantastic snow and ice Cathedral, close to 80 mushers from 10 nations were presented to the audience.

Despite the cold many people gathered in the centre of the city to see the spectacular opening of the winter festival in the city of Northern Lights.

The local girl band Cyanid opened the show with sharp and soft tunes like if they came directly out of the snow and ice Cathedral that they were standing on. The girls in Zymphelia followed with the atmosphere to show that the winter in the north holds both magic and possibilities.

The illuminated Cathedral is inpired by the northern lights, a theme that also the children's theatre used in their short performance on top of the Cathedral. It was exciting and full of atmosphere.

The weather report says it will stay as cold and clear as this evening so there will be more northern lights to see for the mushers who leave Alta Saturday.
