Minister of fisheries Helga Pedersen is opening Finnmarksløpet 2006. The Minister will be the one who officially opens the race on Saturday, March 4th, in the morning. Thereafter she will join one of the mushers and be a passenger in the team leaving the centre of Alta. Helga Pedersen will also take part in the "race-breakfast" for the different partners and the media Saturday morning.
Helga Pedersen agreed to do the opening while she was still the Mayor of Finnmark county. Since then she has become the Minister of Fisheries, but she keeps her promise to Finnmarksløpet.
- A promise is a promise, and I have no other obligations that weekend, so I am happy to participate in the opening of the race, the Minister says.
Finnmarksløpet received the news about her participation with enthusiasm.
- It is very nice that Helga is coming! It means a lot to Finnmarksløpet, Finnmark and Alta and we are looking forward to it, says Executive Manager Hanne Rosenberg.
