As many mushers planning to participate in Finnmarksløpet 2006 probably are aware of - all foreign mushers were inquired about their vaccination papers, by the Norwegian authorities (Mattilsynet) during Finnmarksløpet 2005. IMPORT OF DOGS TO NORWAY.

As many mushers planning to participate in Finnmarksløpet 2006 probably are aware of - all foreign mushers were inquired about their vaccination papers, by the Norwegian authorities (Mattilsynet) during Finnmarksløpet 2005.

Importing dogs to Norway should not be problematic if mushers follow the requirements.

New rules concerning import of dogs to Norway were implemented in Oct. 2004. In order for all foreign mushers who wish to participate in Finnmarkslopet 2006 - and Finnmarkslopet does hope many mushers plan on coming to Alta, Finnmark - Finnmarksløpet urge the mushers to pay special attention to what the requirements are. If the mushers look at the link "The Vet" at Finnmarksløpets home page, scroll down and they will find the heading: "NEW LEGISLATION CONCERNING IMPORT OF DOGS TO NORWAY". Here one finds what the requirements are.

What is new to most mushers is that Echinococcus treatment is mandatory. Treatment must be certified in the passport by a veterinary signature, and must be given within the 10 days prior to arrival and again within 7 days post arrival to Norway.

These are rules that the Norwegian authorities are giving. Finnmarksløpet will prior to the 2006 race have a mandatory check of dogs and vaccination papers. More information about this will come on our home page.

Welcome to Finnmarksløpet - we hope to se many foreign teams on the starting line in Alta on March 4, 2006!
