Silent respect

At the checkpoint in Varangerbotn the teams of Harald and Roger are standing side by side. But the mushers exchange very few words. "It's quite soft out there" says Roger. Harald agrees.

We do not speak so much with each other during the race. Might be because we have so much respect for each other, says Harald Tunheim.

- Out on the track we see how the other one works. The snow is soft, so I could see the big holes that Roger made when he was helping his dogs. I know that he is a tough competitor, says Harald.

Harald arrived to Varangerbotn 33 minutes behind Roger.

- As close as Harald is right now, means in reality only that we are practically in the same position. Harald is just as keen to win as I am, says Roger who discusses his tactics with his handler Tone Larsen (picture).

Both need to rest right now, and the question is how long they will be staying. Right now it does not look anymore like they are just going their own race.

- I need to go out when Roger leaves, says Harald.

So it seems likely they will be leaving from Varangerbotn together.
