Roger and Harald in Varangerbotn

Roger Dahl was the first musher crossing the frozen sea on the way into checkpoint in Varangerbotn. Harald Tunheim followed shortly afterwards, but he had not managed to catch up with Roger all the way on the 90km long stretch from Neiden. Both are resting now at the idyllic checkpoint next to the Varanger Samiske Museum, and they will most likely start out almost at the same time.

In fantastic weather the two leading teams in the Finmarksløpet 1000km race had good speed across the last stretch of ice into the new checkpoint at the Varanger Samiske museum.

Harald managed to cut down the lead Roger had when leaving Neiden by more than half an hour. But their speed has been on the same level now, so that Harald did not manage to catch fully up like it could have been expected after the data from the previous sketches.

If we look at their speed we notice that it is not Harald who is losing speed. Actually just the opposite. His speed has increased by almost one kilometer per hour on the last stretch and has been holding an average speed of 13 km/h from Neiden to Varangerbotn. But Roger has been accelerating as well in comparison to the previous day. He held a speed of 12,5 km/h throughout the night.

Now both of them are in Varangerbotn and will rest for four-five hours at this idyllic museum. But like Harald Tunheim stated at his arrival:

- I will be going out just after Roger, no matter when that should be. If he does not spend a couple of days that is!
