Inger-Marie’s tactics from Kirkenes worked, and gave her the lead out from Varangerbotn. Rest/running time and the weather fitted like hand in mitten. Now the tactic is given: Inger-Marie drives to Sirbma and rest before she drives directly to Karasjok, by Levajok without stopping. Harald is likely to do the same, but can hardly keep up the same speed as Inger-Marie, and must cut down on his rest. Robert rests here, and goes on to Levajok, rests; goes on to Karasjok where everyone has to rest for eight hours. The winner will be the one with the strongest team, if the lead dogs will cooperate all the way. Very small margins and sleep deprivation. But Inger-Marie is in the front seat. These three can push each other so hard that it could give an opening for teams catching up from behind. Trine Lyrek is closest to the three, but behind her we also find Magne Storstein, Nina Skramstad and Thomas Wærner with strong teams. This trio though, can only threaten the front trio if the latter get serious problems.

Sven Enghold developed a tactic where you left the check point before the next team arrived. Empty straw beds told you that the team you were pursuing had left. This would often break the moral of you pursuers. “Sven has gone he left in full gallop!” was the message I often got when I arrived. Today it is difficult to use this tactic, but it seems like Harald wants to. It may back fire, but it makes it all so much more exciting.
